Ducky, the Platypus Facts:
- When Europeans first came to Australia, they thought the platypus was a made-up animal! He is a bit strange: he lays eggs, has a duck-bill, a beaver-tail , is poisonous like a snake and has feet like an otter!
- He has 40,000 electroreceptors on its bill. What's an electroreceptor, I hear you ask? And who counted 40,000 of them?
- Is born with teeth, but these drop out when he is young, leaving plates that grind food.
- Can consume his own body weight in food in a 24 hour period. Talk about a full belly !
